Great British Bake Off bets stopped by Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes has stopped banking on BBC reveal the Great British Bake Off after a flurry of wagers triggered worries the winner's name might have been dripped.
"A run of bets" was positioned for one contestant, numerous at stores in the Ipswich area, the bookmaker said.
It is not known which baker prompted the flurry or whether any entrants have connections with the Suffolk town.
The very first episode of the popular amateur baking contest aired on BBC One Wednesday evening.
It is the sixth series of the program, which challenges 12 hopefuls to impress judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
Weekly the amateur bakers are anticipated to take on a baking obstacle, with very little instructions, and provide a "signature meal".
'Soggy bottom'
The bookmaker stated a flurry of bets came in for one of the yohaig code 12 entrants whose chances started at 12/1 and were minimized to 6/1, 3/1 and after that evens.
"We offered prices on Monday and, nearly before the ink was dry, an uncommon variety of punters remained in a rush to back only one participant," David Williams of Ladbrokes said.
"On Tuesday and Wednesday it was more of the very same one-way traffic. That was enough to set our alarm bells sounding and, as a preventative measure, we suspended our wagering.
"Hopefully, we'll return up with modified chances earlier rather than later, however we didn't wish to get caught with our trousers pulled down and a soaked bottom, so we've chosen to kick back until we are reassured that Bake Off hasn't gone off already.
"When you see a run of bets like this promotion code for one candidate at the expense of everyone else that can be an indication to suspend betting for a bit to examine the scenario," he included.
Several of the bets put were the yohaig code maximum the bookmaker would take for wagers made on the show's result, and 90% were placed on one contestant.
The suspension would not impact bets currently put, the business said.
The first contestant to be knocked out of the competition on Wednesday evening was Stuart Henshall from Surrey.
The 11 remaining entrants are from Berkshire, Lancashire, Cambridgeshire, London, West Yorkshire, Manchester, Essex, Swansea and 2 from Perthshire.
